Youth Allowance: What Tasmanian students need to know
After 12 years of hard work, students in Tasmania are now embarking on the next phase of their education journey, as many wait for or consider offers to attend university in 2010.
But instead of celebrating, many students are still wondering if they can even attend university this year because the Rudd Labor Government axed debate in Parliament on its Youth Allowance changes last year.“Students have been left in the lurch, wondering what kind of student income support they might receive in 2010,” Liberal Senator Guy Barnett said. Labor fails regional communities
After more than two years in office and the Federal Labor Government have not funded one project in regional Tasmania, said Liberal Senator Guy Barnett today.
“This is a disgrace and demonstrates Labor’s contempt for regional communities,” Senator Barnett said. “Only recently has a Tasmanian Committee of Regional Development Australia been properly established and received its official charter – two years after the Government was elected.“On the contrary, the Federal Liberals had an extremely successful Regional Partnership program in place, which supported more than 40 regional projects in Tasmania worth more than $25 million in government and ... »
Rudd Refuses to Disclose Costs of Copenhagen
The Rudd Labor government has refused to disclose the total cost of taking a delegation estimated at 114 people to the Copenhagen Climate Change conference, according to Liberal Senator Guy Barnett, Chairman of the Coalition’s Scrutiny of Government Waste Committee.
“The Australian delegation had 43 more members that that of the UK and 90 more than New Zealand. “Australian taxpayers have funded a huge effort where there was no treaty, no binding agreements, and not even a commitment on a timetable.“Mr Rudd must come clean and advise how much it cost the Australian taxpayer and how many tonnes of CO2 his massive delegation pumped into the ... »
