Senator Guy Barnett today welcomed the referral of his motion for the disallowance of Medicare funding for second trimester and late term abortions to the Senate Finance and Public Administration Committee.
“I intend to reintroduce my motion to disallow Medicare funding following the report of the Senate Committee.
“The inquiry will get more facts on the table, such as the number of babies actually born alive and then simply left to die, as part of the abortion process.
“Today I have tabled over 12,000 petition signatures supporting my motion of disallowance, with more arriving every day. This is a strong demonstration of support.
“I encourage people to express their views to the Senate Committee. It is important that the voice of the many Australians who are deeply concerned about this issue is heard.”
The Senate Committee is due to report on 13 November 2008.
